The New York Times printed my portrait of Shigeko Sasamori, a well known atomic bomb survivor who died this week in Los Angeles. It’s my first portrait of an atomic bomb survivor that they’ve ever published. I’m proud that a larger audience will know about Shigeko because her life deserves attention. After everything she endured, she still gave empathy to the world every moment of every day.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010..December 2008 New York..
Soon after arriving home from a long trip in Japan. Fortunate to cover the AC/DC tour for Mix Magazine. One of the biggest bands I’ve worked with.
Loud, loudest….A stage full of Marshall amps, double decked across the back of the stage and hanging from the top of the arena. The loudest wall of sound imaginable. The sounds thumped in my ears. The ear plugs did nothing. When I walked outside the venue and took my ear plugs out, the sound was still deafening. I can’t imagine how loud it was for the crowd without ear plugs. A big arena rock band. Pyro-techniques and a huge locomotive train on stage with smoke.
One of my favorite assignments! Much better than the previous assignment covering Janet Jackson.
