Sammy is a teenage transgender girl living in America. Her portrait is part of my long term project, Embrace, which explores the lives of transgender and gender non-binary kids, teens, adults and elderly from different parts of the world.
It will be exhibited for the first time at Gallery ef in Tokyo from September 2nd-October 25th.

The April issue of Kotonone Magazine (Japan) ran a feature about my exhibition “Embrace.” Embrace explores the lives of transgender and gender non-binary kids, teens, adult and elderly from different parts of the world.

Esmee is a transgender girl living in the Netherlands. She began transitioning 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 9. One of her hobbies is horse back riding. She is photographed with her favorite horse Shamo.
“Esmee is a wonderful, bright, intelligent, happy, sensitive, funny, caring, beautiful and lovely girl. And we as parents are very proud of her. We went to the rest of our family and told everyone about our daughter, which everybody accepted immediately. Even the neighborhood embraced Esmee instantly. We are very blessed with such understanding people around us, it’s very important for transgenders to be accepted for who they are.” -Esmee’s parents Riena and Henk
